Love and Positivity; Musical Songs to Listen to During COVID-19

With everything going on at the moment, I thought one thing that everyone could do with is some positive and uplifting songs.

If you think I’ve missed any, please let me know and check out my Spotify playlist where I’ve got these all listed!

Do You Hear The People Sing – Les Miserables

This iconic song from Les Mis certainly had to be the first on my list to include. That line “even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise” is what we all need to hear and remind ourselves of at the moment. It’s going to be okay.

Positive – Legally Blonde

For something a little more upbeat, maybe that you can do to a home-workout (see here for my post on top musical songs to workout to, and here for my Spotify playlist on it), Positive from Legally Blonde is one we all need to channel! Keep smiling, remain as positive as you can and try to think of the positive things in each day. Even if it’s that you changed out of pyjamas!

Solidarity – Billy Elliot

One of the most crucial aspects of ensuring the health and safety of EVERYONE is that we remain united. Solidarity is what the country and the world needs right now, and we could all certainly do with listening to this amazing number from Billy Elliot and sticking together. Check on your neighbours if they are elderly or you know they are at higher risk than you, don’t stock-pile on shopping because you’re only making it harder for others to shop, and do your bit by staying at home! Solidarity people!

It Means Beautiful – Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

I chose this one not only because it’s more of a calming song, but also the line “a little bit of glitter in the grey” is really meaning a lot to me at the moment. Try to find the good in everyday, try to smile as much as possible and find the glitter in the grey where you can.

Blankets and Bedding – Come From Away

Much like Solidarity, I chose this one because of course, Come From Away is a story based on the kindness of others, and I think it’s something we all need to channel as much as possible. Be as generous as you can to others while remaining at a safe distance and be kind. And remember that we have got through disasters before; we can do it again.

You Will Be Found – Dear Evan Hansen

Remember that in all this, no matter how frightened you might be for any number of reasons, you are not alone. This song has personally been on a little bit of repeat at my house and I’ve found it really comforting. I hope you have someone to talk to, and if not, my social media accounts and emails are always open if you need someone. You will be found.

Hakuna Matata – The Lion King

A bit more of a light-hearted one to make you smile! No worries for the rest of your days, wouldn’t that be nice! There is only so much we as individuals can do to fight the virus, so the best possible thing you can do for your own physical and mental health is TRY not to worry too much about the future and what the outcomes will be. Hakuna Matata right!

You Give A Little Love – Bugsy Malone

“You give a little love and it all comes back to you” is one of my favourite lines! Karma is a wonderful thing, and I think as nice, kind and positive we can all be in this situation, the better. Help others in need and try to keep a smile on your face as much as possible It’s going to be okay!

Song "You Give A Little Love from Bugsy Malone, smash-hit Film and Musical

Spoonful of Sugar – Mary Poppins

I know a lot of people, myself included, have taken this time to do a lot of cleaning around the house! My windows and curtains have never been so clean! If you haven’t yet, get Mary Poppins on and start your spring clean early; it’ll occupy you and I guarantee you’ll feel better for it.

After All of This and Everything – Freaky Friday

I’m leaving this one to end on because hopefully it helps you look to the future a little. After all of this and everything we are going to be okay. This song looks to the future and as well as concentrating on the right now, we should also be looking to the good times ahead that will come.

I really hope some or all of these songs have helped you in some way! As I said, my Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts are all open for a chat.

I’ve also added all of these songs into a handy Spotify playlist for you if you want to take a listen! I’ve already got some existing playlists on there: Musical pick me up songs, musical workout songs and more! Check out my full OneWomanWestEndShow Spotify here.
